Why AncestryDNA® Results Aren't Mailed

After you mail in your AncestryDNA® test you’ll receive your results through your online Ancestry® account in about six to eight weeks. No test results are physically mailed.

Your AncestryDNA results will change over time as we update our algorithms and reference panels. Mailed results could capture a snapshot of your AncestryDNA results at a certain point, but they could become out-of-date. This is particularly true of your AncestryDNA Matches, which are updated when new people take an AncestryDNA test. Also, mailed results wouldn’t reflect any new updates to your ethnicity estimate.

Why We Post AncestryDNA® Results Online

Posting AncestryDNA results online allows AncestryDNA to deliver updates in real time and add new features as they become available. That’s why we don’t mail them to you.

The AncestryDNA community has more than 23 million members—making it the largest consumer DNA test database—and that number increases every day. And as the database grows, you may discover new AncestryDNA Matches, which you can view anytime online.

By providing your DNA test results online, AncestryDNA can also update your results based on new features and advances in its technology. DNA science is always evolving and AncestryDNA is always searching for better ways to deliver the best possible results to customers.

If you prefer to see your results on paper, you can always print your online AncestryDNA results directly from your electronic device.

How Do I Find My AncestryDNA Results?

Your AncestryDNA results are located on your AncestryDNA homepage, which requires you to sign in to access. If your test is still in process, you’ll see a bar displaying its current status.

If you don’t see your results, or the status of your results, you should check to be sure that youfollowed the necessary steps before sending in your sample:

  1. Create a free Ancestry account if you don't already have one.
  2. Sign in to your Ancestry account.
  3. Register your DNA kit.
